My unique Leading Unmasked approach

More choice
in how you lead.

Explore the person behind your leadership.

Together, we explore your leadership identity in depth: how you see yourself, who you believe you need to be, and what happens when that identity feels challenged.

Leading Unmasked: an illustrated face alongside its layered outline
An approach to understanding yourself and leading more consciously.

Recognising the experience

You know what you want to do.
Yet something gets in the way.

You can be capable, experienced and clear about your intentions, then find yourself responding differently when the moment arrives.

You intend to listen,
but find yourself defending.

You know a conversation matters,
yet keep postponing it.

You achieve what you set out to achieve,
but the sense of enough never lasts.

You want others to take responsibility,
yet struggle to step back.

These moments invite curiosity. What felt at stake, and how much choice did you feel you had?

Leadership identity

When a response feels
like who you are.

“I’m a perfectionist.”

“I’m not good with conflict.”

“I have to stay in control.”

A familiar way of responding can become an explanation of who we are. It may have helped us succeed, earned praise or made difficult situations feel manageable. Over time, it can become hard to imagine leading any other way.

In my approach, I call this learned identity the Mask. It accepts a painful belief about personal inadequacy as true and organises thoughts, feelings and behaviour around preventing other people from discovering it.

The Mask can interpret a question as exposure, disagreement as rejection, or uncertainty as a threat to your sense of competence. I call that felt threat Psychological Danger. The interpretation can feel urgent and convincing because it arrives in your own voice.

We explore how those meanings developed and the authority they carry now. Recognising the Mask as something you can observe opens room to question a response that once felt inevitable.

Room for greater freedom

Your strengths remain yours.

Ambition, high standards, caution and decisiveness can all serve your leadership. We explore whether you can choose how to use them, or feel compelled to keep proving, perfecting, pleasing or taking control.

We also keep the reality of your work in view. Commercial risk, difficult relationships and organisational pressures matter. Understanding your response helps you meet those demands with greater perspective.

That matters beyond your own experience. How you respond influences what others feel able to tell you, the responsibility they take and the decisions you make together.

My unique Leading Unmasked approach

Reveal. Release. Respond.

A continuing practice in how you lead.

Reveal

Make the Mask visible

What is the Mask predicting is dangerous about this?

We explore what happened, how the Mask is interpreting the situation and what it predicts may be exposed. We notice the thoughts, feelings and responses that follow, alongside their impact.

Release

Loosen the Mask’s authority

How do I regain control when the Mask is present?

We examine the prediction and the belief beneath it, creating space to question their authority. The Mask may still be present, but its interpretation does not have to determine your response.

Respond

Restore authorship

What do I consciously choose to do now?

We explore a response grounded in your values, judgement and responsibilities. You put that choice into practice in your working life, then reflect on what happened and what you learned.

The Mask does not need to disappear for Conscious Choice to become available.

Putting understanding into practice

Change in the moments
that matter.

Progress can begin with noticing a familiar reaction sooner. Sometimes awareness arrives during a conversation; sometimes it comes afterwards, with an opportunity to return and repair.

We work with situations you are actually facing, exploring what you want to do differently and learning from what happens. The aim is greater freedom and responsibility in how you lead.

The free Mask Assessment offers a starting point for reflection. Your responses offer indications of patterns that may be influencing your leadership. They do not define your identity.

Start with a conversation

What could coaching
make possible for you?

Tell me what is happening in your leadership and what you would like to develop or change. Our first conversation is a chance to discuss what support could be useful and whether we would work well together.

You don’t need to arrive with a clearly defined goal.
